About Prof. Talat Waseem

Prof. Talat Waseem is a distinguished surgeon with a wealth of experience in surgicaloncology and endocrine surgery. He has received training from renowned institutions such as Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, under the guidance of Prof Stanley W Ashley, University College Cork, and the esteemed Prof Khwaja Muhammad Azim.
Throughout his career, Prof. Waseem has been fortunate to work with notable mentors, including Michael J Zinner, Malcolm Robinson, Edward E Whang, Prof Paul Redmond, Jennifer Smith, Steven Thrush, Harun E Thomas, and Sue Down.
Currently, Prof. Talat Waseem serves as the Chief of Surgery & Allied and holds the position of  Professor of Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery at Shalamar Medical & Dental College, Lahore. His expertise lies in performing surgeries related to cancer and endocrine glands, specializing in thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal surgeries. He has an impressive surgical log, encompassing a wide range of procedures, including thyroidectomies, radical neck dissections, pancreatectomies, esophagectomies, and many more. Prof. Waseem has been recognized and honored with prestigious fellowships, including
the Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons England (FRCS GenSurg), Fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan, and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has also completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Surgical Research from Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School,
USA. In addition, he holds a Masters in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery (UK Scholar) and a Masters in Medical Education. Prof. Talat Waseem actively contributes to the medical community as the General Secretary of the Pakistan Endocrine & Thyroid Surgeons Association. He also
manages the peer-reviewed journal, Archives of Surgical Research, showcasing his commitment to advancing surgic l knowledge and research.
Prior to his current role, Prof. Waseem served as a Clinical Lecturer at Cork University College and the University of Limerick, Ireland, further adding to his international experience and academic achievements.

Prof. Waseem has a longstanding interest and commitment to molecular biology and clinical research and have published around 100 peer reviewed research articles at national and international level, which encompass cancer research, endocrine research and surgical education. Moreover, he currently edits a peer reviewed surgical journal “Archives of Surgical Research” for last 3 years.  In past I have peer reviewed various journals including Surgery, BJS, International Journal of Surgery, and many other journals. His current research focuses on Cancer Research, Surgical Education and role of AI in surgical science, which remain top avenues within biomedical research realm.
